Kitchen, Kashrut and Kiddushim Committee
Purpose: The Kitchen Committee sets policy and oversees the operation of the Tikvat Israel kitchen. It works with the officers, other synagogue committees, and the members of the congregation to ensure that the kitchen runs effectively and adheres to the highest standards of kashrut, and that the food needs for synagogue functions are met.
Activities (past and present): This Committee identifies and develops procedures and policies regarding the use of the kitchen and rules for kashrut (including maintaining an approved list of kosher caterers), and coordinates all kiddushim and other food-related activities for religious holidays and other synagogue events. Under the Kitchen Committee, mashgiachs are trained and certified. The Committee also coordinates volunteers to help at kiddushim. A major initiative in the near future will be to assess the logistical support requirements for the kitchen and implement changes as needed.
Seeking new members: Anyone with an interest in kitchen operations who enjoys making food a central part of synagogue celebrations, is invited to become part of the Kitchen Committee. The committee especially seeks individuals with good interpersonal and organizational skills who would be willing to assume responsibility for ensuring an adequate corps of volunteers to help out at Shabbat kiddushim and other synagogue food-related functions.
