Successful premier – Thank You!
May 20th, Tikvat Israel hosted the premier of the film “Re-Emerging: The Jews of Nigeria”, the first of two events celebrating our retiring Rabbi Howard Gorin:
Haverim,
Last night more than 200 people attended the Washington, D.C. premier of Jeff Lieberman’s film about the emerging Jewish community in Africa. Rabbi Gorin’s role in teaching and inspiring and guiding that community was prominently featured in the film. We should be enormously proud that Tikvat Israel helped and supported him to do so. What we saw in the film should remind us of how blessed we are to be able to live as Jews without the challenges and difficulties that our Nigerian brethren face.
Our thanks to to Melanie Grishman, who sponsored the event in memory of her beloved husband Dr. Herman Jacob Flax; to Debbie and Michael Amster, who oversaw the event; to Alan Apter, Tony Freedman and Stu Turkowitz, who handled the technical details; to Bonnie Cowan and Sue Meiselman, who arranged for the delicious food that followed it; and to Executive Director Sam Freedenberg for his typical, calm oversight of the building and everything that happens it.
