Hazak
Our Chapter is off to a great start with over 70 family units!!!
Purpose: To provide a group that addresses the needs of those 55 and over in the congregation. Offering opportunities to meet for both social, religious and educational programs geared to the interests of the members. The group also will meet with fellow Jews from other Conservative congregations in the community, region and nation.
The TI HAZAK chapter received its charter from United Synagogue at the regional HAZAK event held at our Synagogue on Jan. 31. 120 people, members of our Synagogue and others in the region, gathered to hear Rabbi Gorin give the Dvar Torah followed by a lecture from Jay McCrensky on" Mysticism and Kabbalah". After lunch, Cantor Helzner spoke on "The Art of the Niggun" demonstrating through song. Many thanks to the Rabbi and Cantor for their participation in this event.
Over 50 people attended the showing of "Hester Street" on Jan. 29. Thanks to all the folks involved in purchasing the new audio and video equipment for the shul....The Rabbi and family for purchasing the sound system as well the Adult Ed. Committee, Religious School, Youth Committee, and the Strategic Communications Committee for the projector.

Past events:
- Jan 29, 2006 - We noshed and schmoozed with other seniors, then enjoyed the prize-winning film "Hester Street."
- Jan 31, 2006 - We hosted Jewish seniors from across the Mid-Atlantic for a mid-day program titled "Jewish Thought and Mysticism"
- March 23, 2006 - Lunch presentation by an Investigator with Montgomery County's Office of Consumer Protection. The topic: Scams Targeted at the Senior Community and Ways to Protect Ourselves.
-
Our HAZAK group had another successful event on Thursday, March 23. We
met at noon at the Synagogue for a dairy brown bag lunch and sweets.
This was followed by an excellent presentation on Senior Scams given by
Sue Rogan, the Communication Coordinator for the Montgomery County's
Office of Consumer Protection. We certainly were both informed and
entertained by her knowledge and wit. The presentation was followed
by an excellent question and answer session. Those in attendance really
learned a great deal.

In June, at the end of the first year of Hazak's inaugural year at TI, we joined other chapters in the Mid-Atlantic region for a retreat in the pokonos. Read Dorothy Adelman's charming description of this week-long retreat -

- Dec 3, 2006 - Pre-Chanukah Extravaganza - TI's HAZAK chapter held a pre-Chanukah extravaganza which included a musical performance by TI's own Eine Kleine Tikvah band, humor by the TI-sponsored Toastmasters' Club (known as The Hopeful Talkers) and light refreshments appropriate for the Chanukah season.
