Rori's Message - October 2007
We had a wonderful opening to school, and the children have settled into the routine of their
respective classes.
To kick off our new year, the Parents Committee, co-chaired by Hillary Berman and Kary
Lawrence, hosted a family Shabbat dinner. This event was a wonderful way to meet other parents
and welcome Shabbat together. I wish to thank all of the parents who helped prepare and organize
the dinner, with extra thanks for the clean-up crew. Finally, we thank Cantor Helzner for providing
such a wonderful "Shabbat is Special" service every month for the children and their families.
September brought us new friends, Rosh Hashanah, the shofar, apples and honey, and fruits,
vegetables and decorations for Sukkot. Most of our enrichment activities are well underway.
October brings the excitement of Simchat Torah, and a field trip to Sharps Farm to experience a
real working farm and, of course, pick pumpkins.
Help make your Shabbat special while supporting the ECC. Every week the preschool sells
delicious challot from Rosendorf's in Baltimore. Forms are located outside the ECC office. To place
an order, please complete the form and return it to the ECC office no later than the Monday
before the Shabbat needed. Challot will be delivered to the ECC office on Thursday for you to
pick up on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
On Wednesday, October 3, the ECC will close at 3:30 p.m. for Hoshanah Rabah, and will remain
closed for Shemini Atzeret on Thursday, October 4 and Simchat Torah on Friday, October 5. The ECC
will also be closed for the annual Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning Early Childhood Professional
Day Conference on Wednesday, October 24. The theme for this year's conference, "PLAY = LEARNING,"
is very appropriate to our early childhood center's mission and philosophy.
La shana toava u'matuka. Have a sweet and happy new year.
L'hitraot,
Rori Pollak
ECC Director
