Tikvat Israel

Due to concerns about the potential for wintry precipitation later tonight and its possible effect on concert-goers, entertainers and staff who would be leaving the synagogue after 9:30 pm, the organizers of the Focus Concert scheduled for 7:30 this evening at Tikvat Israel have CANCELLED it.
This evening’s minyan, which was moved to 7:00 to accommodate the concert, will still be held at 7:00 in the chapel, NOT at the regular 7:30 pm time.
Visit the Focus website — www.focusmusic.org — for information about rescheduling of tonight’s concert as well as for news about upcoming concerts.

Scott Wolfson and Other Heroes have been lighting up stages with their high-energy brand of multifaceted Americana music since 2011.  Seamlessly welding folk, blues, country, Broadway, and rock’n’roll into a smart, rootsy, compelling sound, Scott and the band join it with a razor-sharp wit to seek out the humanity in moments of love, rage, and despair.

Through six years and two albums (2014’s Life on Fire and 2016’s Welcoming the Flood), they have earned rave reviews, airplay, and fans on festival stages and in listening rooms throughout the Northeast. Their tight arrangements, wicked sense of humor, and big catchy sound make each show a true experience.

Meghan Cary didn’t mean to be a musician. When her fiancé unexpectedly died, she picked up his guitar, figured out how to play it, and wrote her debut, earning her Billboard Magazine’s Critic’s Choice for Best Newcomer. “I wrote my grief into song, and sang my way out of the abyss. I keep making music to help others connect with their own stories and find their joy.”

Known for her unabashed willingness to connect with her audience, Cary brings listeners to their feet and at times to tears with high-energy tunes, masterful storytelling, and deeply personal lyrics that resonate universally.

The FOCUS event will be staged at Tikvat Israel; light refreshments will be available for purchase during intermission. Advance tickets are available through FOCUS’s website.  FOCUS member pricing for tickets purchased at the door will be extended to Tikvat Israel members.

FOCUS is a non-profit organization whose mission “is to bring folk and acoustic music to a growing audience through performance, education and participation in the musical folk art.” Tikvat Israel and FOCUS have agreed to a partnership to bring folk music concerts to Tikvat Israel and the Montgomery County community.
