Invitation to Shabbat Morning Prayer
Date(s) - Thursday, January 4, 2018
Tikvat Israel will hold an ongoing monthly educational series on Shabbat mornings titled “Invitation to Shabbat Morning Prayer” for adults eager to better appreciate and understand the service.
The ongoing series, led by Rabbah Arlene Berger, a congregant at TI, will take place on the third Shabbat of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon starting on Jan. 20. The series will continue on Feb. 17, March 17, April 21 and May 19.
An introductory session is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, for anyone considering the course. At this meeting, Berger will solicit the participants’ desires for the course, allowing her to plan a learning experience about Shabbat prayer that will meet the needs of a diverse group.
“We will look at the structure and choreography of the service as well as the intent and meanings of specific prayers,” she said. Berger believes the series will be of particular interest to:
• those who are new to Judaism and religious services;
• those who may not be new but feel the need to deepen their understanding of the service; and
• those who are considering conversion or just want to feel more at home in synagogue on Shabbat.
RSVP to her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you plan to attend on Jan. 4 or the opening session or have questions.
