Omer Project – The Work of Our Hands
Date(s) - Sunday, May 22, 2016
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Tikvat Israel is blessed with many talented artists in our community. These gifted crafts-folk have volunteered their skills, time, and open-heartedness to teach a variety of craft projects to members of our community as part of our Omer Project.
Registration and an $8 supply fee (payable to the instructor on site) for these workshops is required. At this point, online bookings are closed, so please call the Tikvat Israel office to inquire about registration.
- Hand Beaded & Embroidered Fish — Instructor: Shirley Waxman Create a fish; learn couching with metallic threads for head and fins. Make scales with sequins and beads.
- Wire & Bead Kippah — Instructor: Bobbi Gorban This beautiful kippah is created with a Star of David in the middle. The wire and beads in various colors are worked from the center out. Six rounds are added to complete the kippah. A comb is attached with wire underneath (so the kippah will stay on the person’s head).
- Quilting — Instructor: Melanie Grishman We will make a table mat. Focus will be on learning two stitches: straight running stitch, and a hem stitch. All necessary materials, such as needles, pins and thread will be provided. Bring scissors!
- Knitting 101 — Instructor: Shelly Goldin Have fun learning to cast on stitches, knit and purl. You can learn to decrease and increase stitches when you want to, and not by mistake! There will be yarn available, and some sets of needles. Bring your own needles, if you have them, or even directions for a project you are learning to make.
We look forward to seeing your creations, with the help of our artists’ expert guidance.
