Rabbi Gorin Tends to Jewish Inmates' Learning

Rabbi Howard Gorin has ministered to his congregants at Tikvat Israel in Rockville for 26 years. Over the last few years, he's extended his reach to serve the needs of the Abayudaya (Jewish) Community in Uganda and emerging Jewish communities in Nigeria, visiting both on several occasions.

And now Rabbi Gorin is going behind bars to serve the thirst for Jewish knowledge by inmates at state and federal penitentiaries, an often overlooked but growing population.

Scouts Pursuing Badges to Descend on TI

Hundreds of Jewish Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from across the Washington region will descend on Tikvat Israel on Sunday, Jan. 7 for the area's annual Merit Badge and Jewish Religious Awards Fair. The event will run from 2 to 5 p.m. in the social hall.

Officers, Board Members Nominated for 2007

With congregational approval, an energetic slate of officers and board members is set to take over the leadership of Tikvat Israel in 2007.

A slate of nominees will be presented to TI members at a congregational meeting at 7 p.m. on Sun., Dec. 17.

Saving TI's Energy, One Bulb at a Time

Tikvat Israel's Environmental Task Force is holding a fund raiser to sell Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) during Hanukkah.

The bulbs will be sold on Sunday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. until noon and on Monday, Dec. 25 during the Family Fun Day program.

Calling Tall Talent at TI

Warren Berger is looking for a few good physical specimens - especially if they are tall and speedy!

He is recruiting players for Tikvat Israel's basketball team in the Montgomery County Synagogue League, which runs on Sunday mornings from January through March. This is the 10th season that TI has entered a team.
