TI Teen Featured in National Magazine.........posted Jan 30, 2006
Melissa Cohen, a junior at Rockville High School, contributed a feature article about her volunteer work at Tikvat Israel for the January issue of a national magazine that focuses on teen-agers' lifestyles.
In her article titled "Working at the Synagogue," Melissa described her role as a teacher aide in the K-1 classroom each Sunday morning. The magazine, Portico Student, with a national print run of 200,000 copies, also published several photos of Melissa working with young TI pupils.
She contributed the article at the encouragement of her journalism teacher at Rockville High School. Melissa, daughter of TI members Robbi and Larry Cohen, is an associate editor on the school's prize-winning newspaper, The Rampage.
Portico Student's editor, Melissa Brown, said it was "totally up to Melissa's discretion as to what she wrote and how she wrote it. I was very pleased with her article and how she expressed herself. It was exactly what I was looking for."
