Photograph by Larry Marc Levine Following its Grand Opening, Tikvat Israel's Gallery Space is open for viewing and looks forward to welcome many congregants in the coming weeks. The new art gallery and boutique, located in the synagogue's lobby, is displaying various artwork by nearly a dozen local Jewish artisans.
The Gallery Space will be open from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays for the remainder of September. Due to the High Holidays, scheduling of regular daytime hours in October and beyond have not been finalized.
Private showings are available at other hours by arrangement through Angie Hersh, gallery coordinator. She is looking for a few more TI members to join the volunteer corps. Applications can be found on the table outside of the main sanctuary.
The Gallery Space currently is featuring works of art by the following: Avy Ashery, Marlene Chait, Beverly Gould, Edwin Gould, Bobbi Premack Gorban, Angie Hersh, Kate Jennes-Kahn, Larry Levine, Debby and Alan Kover, Gayle Pressman, Joan Stone, and Youth in the Gallery artist Danielle Hersh.
Many of the artists have said they will take special orders for specific items, so please ask if you do not see the exact item that you would like to buy. Hersh can be reached at angiehersh@hotmail.com or 301-593-0273.
Hersh said she is interviewing a half dozen additional artists to be included in the collection. Artists who are 21 or younger can apply to show and sell their work as part of the Youth in the Gallery exhibit.
All of the displayed pieces created by senior and junior artists are for sale and a percentage of the sales goes to the Tikvat Israel Women's Network to be used to support the many projects and programs that go on at the shul.
