Softballers Seek New Talent for New Season.........posted Apr 2, 2007

The synagogue is again fielding a team this spring in the 22-team Suburban Maryland Synagogue Men's Softball League.

TI hopes to add some newcomers to the lineup to improve on its 19th place finish in 2006. A year earlier, TI soared to 9th and in 2004, the team finished in 19th place.

Any male member of TI age 18 or older is welcome to join by contacting the new coach Will Hochman at whochman@aol.com. No previous experience on a softball team is required.

Hochman is succeeding Marc Schneider in the post.

All members on the TI team have a financial link to the synagogue as a dues-paying member or through tuition to the TI early childhood center or religious school.

Each shul plays on Sunday mornings at assigned fields throughout Montgomery County. Each team plays about 20 games during the regular season, which starts April 8 and runs until mid-June with four weeks of playoffs to follow for the top 16 teams.

Unbeknownst to most members of the synagogue, TI has quietly fielded a team in the slow-pitch league for at least 20 years, according to Schneider, who coached the softballers for the past six years.

The league maintains a website during the season at

www.synagogue-softball.org, where a complete schedule and up-to-date standings can be found.
