Hochman's Hot But Hoopsters Seek 1st W.........posted Feb 8, 2007
The men's basketball team at TI continues in firm pursuit of victory this winter.
Competing in the county synagogue conference, the TI hoopsters fell in its two most recent outings, dropping a 77-46 contest to Shaare Torah Blue and a nearly identical 76-47 decision to Shaare Tefila Blue.
The loss to Shaare Torah came about despite a valiant one-man scoring spree by Will Hochman, one of the rookies recruited by TI Coach Warren Berger for this year's upgraded lineup.
Hochman hit five three-pointers in the first half, single-handedly keeping TI in the game. When the opponents put their best defender on him in the second half, Berger reported, "the rest of us couldn't pick up the slack. We also couldn't defend their 6-foot-8-inch center."
Hochman added one more bucket from behind the arc in following intermission and finished with a season-high 23 points, exactly half of his team's total output for the game.
In the other setback to Shaare Tefila, TI was led in scoring by Hochman, Mark Bardeski and David Blum.
Berger offered one highlight. "We had the TI team debut of two promising newcomers who are each around 6 feet tall, Lior Golan and Guy Brami. Both are dads of Hebrew school pupils."
TI's record on the 2007 season is 0-5 with four games remaining.
