TI Softballers End Season in 19th Spot.........posted Jun 30, 2007
Tikvat Israel's men's softball team finished in 19th place in the 21-team synagogue softball league in Montgomery County this spring.
Despite winning two games in the opening weekend of the season, TI finished with a 4-13 won-loss record.
TI was directed by William Hochman, a rookie manager who kept the team together despite a rash of injuries throughout the season. Pitchers were Neil Kram, Warren Berger and Stuart Lempert, with catching duties provided by Barry Buchbinder and Jerry Danoff. The infield was anchored by Mark Waldman, Marc Schneider and Hochman. Outfielders included Bruce Ginsberg, Al Sandler, David Green, David Blum and Rick Penn.
Hochman did not respond to requests for his assessment of the 2007 season, but one veteran player said the team was grateful for its loyal fan support on Sunday mornings.
Any male affiliated with Tikvat Israel who is 18 or older is eligible to play on the team next spring. Even non-members who have a child enrolled in the pre-school or religious school are welcome to become team members. No previous experience in the sport is necessary. Contact Hochman by calling 301-460-7394 for signup details.
