March Madness ended a bit early in 2007 for the TI men's basketball club.

After winning a play-in game for the right to participate in the post-season tournament, the TI hoopsters saw their season end in a defeat to a team from Congregation Shaare Tefila. The loss lands the team in 8th place in final standings of the Montgomery County synagogue league.

The TI team finished with a 2-10 won-loss record.

Coach Warren Berger's forces defeated Shaare Torah, 61-53, in a close contest in its March 11 play-in game. Berger summarized the game highlights this way: "We went on a run in the second half. First, David Green hit a three-pointer from the corner and Neil Kram got an offensive rebound and put back. Then, Will Hochman hit three three-pointers in row. Although our opponents made a little run at the end, both Mark Bardeski and David Blum hit driving layups . ... Also helping provide some height and muscle for us this game was Lior Golan."

TI fell in its next game against the tournament's No. 2 seed, which went on to be crowned kings of the local synagogue circuit.

In the 7th place consolation game, TI lost to Shaare Tefila Red, 68-48. "As with many games this year, teams with tall guys really overpowered us. In this case, one of their guys was young and 6-foot-6 and he could dunk," Berger contended. Leading the scoring with eight three-point baskets was Will Hochman.

"We had a great time playing and improved throughout the year," said Berger, who was offered an extension on his contract as player-coach for another season.

Meanwhile, TI's USY team finished its first season of play without a victory in its Sunday night league. TI was coached by Damon Ehrlich.
