TI Finishes Torah Marathon and Letter Writing.........posted May 1, 2007

More than 72 individuals, from youngsters to senior citizens, participated in TI's first Torah Thon on Sunday, April 29.

"We succeeded in reading the entire Torah from start to finish in one day," said Danny Bachman, who chairs the synagogue's M'kom Torah (Torah Fund) Committee.

He admits the count of those who read portions of the scroll is probably incomplete, and the number might be somewhat higher.

Book captains for the day-long event were Fred Wagner (Genesis), Eliot Cowan (Exodus), Sharon Kristal (Leviticus), Jeff Bernstein (Numbers) and Sam Freedenberg (Deuteronomy). Their quick thinking helped keep the reading on track all day long, Bachman noted.

Wagner conceived of the idea for the Torah Thon, while Jeff Smith kept the Torah lettering running smoothly. Under the latter's watchful eye, more than 125 people filled in letters in our new Torah scroll, which will be completed shortly. In fact, more than 250 members of TI will have helped to write the scroll by its completion on May 13.

"I want to especially thank our Kitchen Committee, who provide the Torah readers with snacks that helped keep up our strength," Bachman added.
