Young Congregants Compete in Global Challenge.........posted May 9, 2007
Eighth-grader Irene Fobe has qualified for the global tournament of Destination Imagination, a creative problem-solving competition for school-age children. The event takes place May 23-26 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn.
Irene is the daughter of TI member Rachelle Fobe of Brookeville, Md.
Irene is part of a team representing Gaithersburg Middle School that earlier this spring placed first in the Montgomery County competition and second in the Maryland tournament's CSI DI category, qualifying the team for the global event.
Her younger brother Lenny, who competed with friends from Maryvale Elementary School, came in third in the DIrect Flight challenge at the county competition.
The Fobes will be joined in Knoxville by another TI teen-ager Abby Goldman, who has resurrected half of her Montgomery Blair High School team of the past four years to compete in the collegiate challenge at globals. Abby and her teammates are now first-year students at various colleges across the country.
