Synagogue Goes Solar to Support Darfur.........posted Nov 15, 2007

Solar Cooker On Display In Our Lobby
Tikvat Israel's Social Action committee is sponsoring an exciting Solar Cookers project to benefit women and children in Darfur refugee camps.

Displays of the solar cookers will be available shortly in the synagogue's main lobby as well as the education wing lobby.

Purchase of the cooking kits will support the thousands of women and children of Darfur currently living in refugee camps. According to Robbi Cohen, co-chair of the Social Action Committee, the solar cookers decrease opportunities for the women to become targets of violence, represents an environmentally responsible method of cooking and provide an opportunity for the refugees to create a solar cookers manufacturing business.

Three ways to order:

* Complete an order/donation form located on each of the solar cooker displays and send by mail; or

* Go online to jewishworldwatch.org to complete an order/donation form; or

* Call Jewish World Watch at 818-501-1836 to place an order/donation.

A $30 order/donation pays for two solar cookers, two pots, two potholders, a year's supply of plastic bags and training for refugee women and girls.

For more information, access jewishworldwatch.org or contact Robbi at Peezer200@yahoo.com.
