Sluggish Spring Start for Winless TI Softballers in Synagogue League.........posted Apr 27, 2008

The Tikvat Israel's men softball team has dropped its opening four contests this spring in the 22-team Montgomery County syngagogue softball conference.

But here's the good news: TI will get 14 more cracks at scratching out a victory in 2008 in a quest to improve on its 19th place league finishes in each of the last two years. The team plays a doubleheader starting at 9:15 each Sunday morning at recreation sites in the area and would love for Tikvat members to come out and root for the good guys.

Wood Middle School, located just five minutes from shul on Bauer Drive, serves as TI's home playing field -- a perfect place to head after Sunday morning minyan.

Results so far are these: B'nai Tzedek swept a pair, 17-3 and 7-0, and Washington Hebrew Congregation nipped TI, 8-7, in the opener and 19-12 in the nightcap.

William Hochman, who has returned as head coach of the TI softball forces for the second year, was unavailable for comment on his team's past fortunes this season or on its chances for victory following the two-week Passover respite.

The remaining spring schedule of games is as follows:

May 4, TI vs. Shaare Torah Silver at Wood Middle School;

May 11, TI vs. Temple Emanuel at North Chevy Chase;

May 18, TI vs. Ohev Shalom at Manor Oak;

June 1, TI vs. Kehilat Shalom at Wood MS;

June 8, TI vs. B'nai Israel White at Wood MS;

June 15, TI vs. Beth Ami Blue at Wood MS;

June 22, TI vs. Beth Shalom at Wood MS

Updated standings and game results are posted every Sunday night at www.synagogue-softball.org. The league website also provides travel directions to each playing location.
