Inclusion Shabbat Observed With Guest Speaker at TI.........posted Jan 18, 2008
Tikvat Israel will observe its annual Inclusion Shabbat on Jan. 26.
The speaker will be Irving Shapiro, an executive board member of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes who has a daughter living in one of the group homes. He will speak about his experiences as a parent of a disabled child.
There will be a sign language interpreter.
The goal of the annual Inclusion Shabbat is to welcome and include all congregants into our Tikvat Israel community who have any special needs, regardless of age.
The synagogue Inclusion Committee, chaired by Judy Waldman, has been pro-active within the synagogue in creating awareness of the needs of people with disabilities. The committee currently is working on assembling several large print copies of the Chumash, talking with various synagogue committees to make them aware of accessibility needs within the building and increasing the visibility of the resource program in the Hebrew school.
