TI Hoopsters In the Running for Opening Win of 2008.........posted Jan 21, 2008
The basketball season is off and running for the Tikvat Israel hoopsters, who remain in pursuit of an elusive first win in 2008.
Competing again in the Montgomery County Synagogue League, the men's basketball team at TI has had some competitive encounters in its first three setbacks, losing 55-47 to Temple Isaiah No. 2, 52-37 to Beth El and 66-44 to Temple Isaiah No. 1. The team has six more chances to reach the win column this winter.
Player-coach Warren Berger points to some standouts on the young season. "Will Hochman has been hitting 3-point shots. Lior Golan and Guy Brami have provided much-needed height inside and have played good defense and grabbed many rebounds. David Blum and Jon Urban have made many good drives to the basket. We are playing good basketball, but are missing too many open shots," Berger says. "Maybe next week."
The complete TI roster consists of Berger, Blum, Brami, Golan, Hochman, Bruce Ginsburg, Fred Wagner, Jeff Kahn, Jon Urban, Marc Schneider, Mark Bardeski, Mark Waldman and Neil Kram.
Here is TI's remaining schedule with all games played at Blake High School:
- Jan 27, 8:30 a.m. Shaare Torah White vs. Tikvat Israel
- Feb 3, 10:30 a.m., Oseh Shalom A vs. Tikvat Israel

All members of the basketball must be affiliated with the synagogue, either as dues-paying congregants or tuition-paying parents of young children in the early childhood center. Players must be at least 18 years old.
