Congregants Ratify Housing Hebrew Day Institute.........posted Jan 27, 2008
Congregation Tikvat Israel members overwhelmingly approved an agreement to become the new home of the Hebrew Day Institute.
By a lopsided voice vote in a full sanctuary, congregants agreed on Jan. 27 to a five-year rental agreement that will bring the 60-pupil school to Tikvat Israel beginning in July.
The Hebrew Day Institute, currently located at Congregation Har Tzeon-Agudath Achim in Silver Spring, serves students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
The congregation's approval followed a detailed presentation by committee chair Mark Waldman on the key aspects of the financial agreement of the lease. Waldman has headed TI's negotiations team, which began its work in early fall. Other committee members are Howard Dickenson, Neil Newman, Cheryl Finkelstein and Ron Rabin.
"Over the next few months, we will be completing plans for the transitions that are necessary to make this relationship successful," said Michael Grossman, TI executive director. "I want to thank the committee that worked so diligently to work out the agreement and to make the presentation to the congregation."
Grossman added: "Embarking on a new relationship can be exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. ... Personally, I am excited to be part of this new adventure and can assure the congregation that I will be very diligent about protecting the interests of the congregation."
The TI Board of Directors previously adopted the proposal.
