Spring weather means softball for a hardy band of Tikvat Israel congregants, who compete under the synagogue banner in the Montgomery County Synagogue Softball League. The TI forces play doubleheaders against other shuls every Sunday morning through mid-June.

The Tikvat Israel Havurah Committee is in search of members of the synagogue who are 70 years of age and older in hopes of forming a havurah group of adults in that age group. "This is a great way to meet people and form friendships," says Amy Matathias, who coordinates the startup of new TI havurahs.

The ArtSites Guild for Jewish Art will stage a Wearable Art and Fashion Show from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 17 at Tikvat Israel. In addition to seeing beautiful wearable art, the event will include an elegantly catered High Tea with friends. Reservations by May 8 are strongly preferred.

Tikvat Israel will host members of three area churches for a cultural diversity program to learn about aspects of Jewish music, art, crafts, dance and ethnic foods. The unusual event starts at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5 at the synagogue.
