Congregants' Shopping Bags Overflow With Donations to Manna Food Bank.........posted Oct 8, 2009
Congregants at Tikvat Israel responded big time to the call this year for food donations for those in the Washington area struggling economically through the harsh financial climate.
During TI's annual Kol Nidre Food Appeal, members contributed shopping bags overflowing with non-perishables amounting to 1,630 lbs, according to Amy Ginsburg, director of the Manna Food Bank in Rockville, the recipient each year of the synagogue's collection drive.
Ginsberg also indicated that Tikvat Israel has been consistent over the years in the number of pounds of food donated.
"She recognized that we have been consistently supporting them all year and every year," said congregant David Gantz, who coordinates the effort as a member of the synagogue's Social Action Committee..
"If you were unable to participate and missed this opportunity, we collect year round for Manna," he added.
