Jewish Book Sale Jan. 2 at TI Offers 1,600 Titles; Proceeds Benefit Jewish Studies in India

A Judaica book sale that will support perhaps the first Jewish studies course at a university in South Asia will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2, at Tikvat Israel. The roughly 1,600 used books will cover a wide range of subjects, including Bibles, Talmud and Rabbinic literature, American Jewish history, Holocaust studies, Israel and Zionism. Nearly three-fourths are hard covers, most of them nearly new.

Israeli Film Fest Returns to TI Twice in January

The Adult Education Committee has selected two top-notch films for the 2011 Israeli Film Fest at Tikvat Israel. Both programs include light refreshments and moderated discussion following the film. Scheduled for screening are: "A Matter of Size" on Saturday, Jan. 8, and "Dear Mr. Waldman," on Saturday, Jan. 22. Both films start at 7:45 p.m.

Matheson, Sheskin and Benzion Nominated as Board Officers; TI Election Set for Jan. 3

Members of Congregation Tikvat Israel will have a chance to vote in a series of three new officers and a half dozen governing board members during the synagogue's annual elections on Monday, Jan. 3. In addition, voters will face a rare contested position for the board representative from the early childhood center. Two members are vying for the seat.

National Women's League Convention Spotlights TI's Goldin, Gorban

Two longtime backbones of the Tikvat Israel's active Women's League -- Shelly Goldin and Bobbi Gorban -- were recognized publicly in front of more than 500 peers from across the country during the just-concluded national convention of the Women's League for Conservative Judaism in Baltimore. The convention's theme was:  "Kehillah Kedoshah: Celebrating Community Woman to Woman."
