USY Basketballers Conquer All Comers During Season's 1st Half.........posted Feb 23, 2010

Congregation Tikvat Israel's USY basketball team has streamrolled its opposition for an undefeated first half of the winter season.

Warren Berger is the coach of the juggernaut, which includes USY members from the combined Sharre Tefila-Tikvat Israel chapter. The team's members are Ross Apter, Alex Berger, Brandon Ehrlich, Jeremy Ehrlich, Zack Kaye, Leor Newman, Zach Plotkin and Blair Wilen.

The USY squad is led by big man Newman, seniors J.Ehrlich and Wilen and 3-point sharpshooter B.Ehrlich.

Last year, TI finished with 4-4 won-loss record, just out of the playoffs. This year, with a 4-0 start, the team, with the addition of some personnel from Shaare Tefila, has been focused on not only making the playoffs but on winning the championship.

The closest win to date was 69-66 over Ohr Kodesh. The remaining games are against scheduled for Sunday evenings against Shaare Torah, Beth El Bethesda, Har Shalom and Adas Israel. The last two are expected to be particularly difficult as Adas Israel is also undefeated.

The USY league will hold its playoffs and championship game on Sunday evening, April 11.

Shayna Kritz, assistant director of youth activities for Seaboard Region, USCJ, functions as league commissioner.
