"Mishloah Manot" Sale Taking Place January 7 Thru February 7.........posted Jan 4, 2010

Scroll with starsGiving a gift of food to friends – “Mishloah Manot” – is one of the nicest traditions of Purim. A rabbinic teaching tells us that we should not only give gifts to friends, but to people new to the community, those who are needy, and those whose spirits would be lifted by knowing someone cares.

To help fulfill the mitzvah of Mishloah Manot, the MTNesters Havurah at Tikvat Israel is again coordinating a Mishloah Manot project. Celebrate the joy and sweetness of Purim by participating in TI’s Mishloah Manot project!

For $5 per name or household (no increase from last year!), you can give a beautiful gift bag to anyone on the TI membership list, including teachers and staff. Each person on your list will receive a bag, along with a Purim card listing all the people who also designated that person to receive a bag. For example, if more than one individual designates you for a Mishloah Manot package, you will receive one bag only; all those people selecting you for the Mishloah Manot will be listed on the accompanying card.

Go for the Max!  For those who would like to take the mitzvah of Mishloah Manot to the limit, there is the option to send to everyone on the membership list (or as many people as you wish) for $150 (same price as last year). A real bargain, considering that the list contains over 400 households!

Order extra gift bags You may also order extra bags at $8 each for your own personal use – i.e., for relatives, friends, neighbors, coworkers, or other individuals who are NOT on the TI membership list.

There are two easy ways to order – online and with a paper order form.

  1. To order online, go to www.tikvatisrael.happypurim.com any time after January 6, and log on with your personal pass-code. (Congregants will receive their pass-codes by mail in early January.) Follow the simple directions on the welcome page to designate those congregants whom you would like to receive a bag. You will also have the opportunity to make a donation to charity – another mitzvah of Purim – via the shul’s “tzedakah Chavurah.” When your order is complete, you may pay securely online by credit card.
  2. For those who prefer using a paper order form, click here to download a PDF file to print and mail in. Order forms are also available in the synagogue office, in the January Bulletin (p. 16) or by contacting Anna or Maimon Levy at 301 774-6115 or mysaba10@gmail.com. Return your completed form with a check to the office.

Deadline for ordering is February 7, 2010.
