New advisers for each of the four youth groups are eager to launch the new year with good fellowship and plenty of fun. The Joint Youth Department of Shaare Tefila and Tikvat Israel has signed new staff members, including (for the first time in recent memory) a pair of advisers who are products of TI’s religious school and youth programs. The Tikvat Israel softball team won three of its first six games, but landed in 22nd place in the final standings of the 2010 Montgomery County Men's Synagogue Softball League. TI compiled a 3-13 won-loss record and looks to add more congregants to next year's playing roster.

Tikvat Israel's annual Beautification Day landed on another sizzling day under the sun, but the weather conditions did not hamper the hard work of a contingent of volunteers, led cleanup chair Alan Apter. As a result, the synagogue's look is spruced up for the advent of the coming High Holidays.

The synagogue will shut down at 8 o'clock every Tuesday evening, immediately following minyan. The custodial crew will leave the premises, and the building will be locked. This practice has been implemented for energy preservation as well as cost savings.
