Synagogue's Tzedakah Commits $5,000 to Causes Worldwide

Tikvat Israel members will be supporting a wide array of causes through nearly $4,600 contributed in small-amount tzedakah contributions during the past year. The money -- mostly donated following morning and evening minyanim -- will support diverse causes globally and locally, selected by a TI havurah responsible for these decisions each year.

New Jersey Newspaper Plugs Our Rabbi's Book Collecting Efforts

The New Jersey Jewish Standard, a weekly newspaper, is the latest publication to describe the industrious book collection efforts of Rabbi Howard Gorin. A detailed feature story, "Recycling Jewish books: Rabbi works to ensure that Jewish texts find a good home," appears in the newspaper’s Aug. 11 issue.

Sisterhood Ties 1st Book Discussion to Author's TI Visit

Tikvat Israel's Sisterhood has scheduled book discussion sessions for its first three selections in 2011-12, including one connected to author Ann Brener's visit to the synagogue in mid-September.

Adult Education Committee Slates Author, Local Historian and Israeli Film Fest

Adult Education Committee invites congregants to its first activity of the 2011-12 year -- a session with author Ann Brener, who will talk at TI about her book Samuel's Daughter at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. The committee also has a local history program planned in mid-November on Jewish life in Abe Lincoln's day and a two-date film fest in January.
