Adult Learning Options Abound; Israeli Films Announced for TI Screenings

Several adult education programs, including an annual Israeli film fest and a series of Talmudic study sessions led by a pair of rabbis, are slated at Tikvat Israel over the next few months. Program organizers ask you to register ahead of time to ensure appropriate seating and supplies.

Office Staff Add Newcomers for Member, Program Support

Tikvat Israel recently expanded its staffing to better serve the congregation, including Anita Greenwald as administrative assistant and receptionist in the synagogue's front office. Also, Lynn Berk, director
of youth and family programming, has taken on expanded responsibilities, while two TI members -- Bonnie Cowan and Sue Meiselman -- will lead kitchen operations.

Congregant to Observe a Special Bar Mitzvah ... at Age 83

Manny Helzner will celebrate a milestone on Nov. 12, surrounded by family and friends at Tikvat Israel. He will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah.

Focus Groups in January to Gather 'Collective Wisdom' from TI Members

Tikvat Israel's Strategic Planning Committee wants input of TI members to plot the future of the synagogue. Congregants will participate in a series of focus groups in January as part of a long-term strategic plan. Findings also will be turned over in April to the Rabbi Search Committee, which will spend 2012 identifying possible successors to retiring Rabbi Howard Gorin.
