Congregants to Salute Larry Gorban at Tribute Dinner; Gift Registry Now Open.........posted Dec 20, 2012
Larry Gorban, who has played key leadership roles at Tikvat Israel for more than 16 years, will be the guest of honor at a special Kabbalat Shabbat service and dinner on Friday, Jan. 25.
Congregants will have a chance to show their appreciation to Larry for his many contributions, which began in the year leading up to the formation of Tikvat Israel in 1997, the result of a merger between Temple Israel in Silver Spring, where he was the second to last president in 1994-96, and Beth Tikva.
In lieu of a tribute book, Tikvat Israel has established a TI Gift Registry, which is posted at www.tikvatisrael.org/Larry. Consider pledging in Larry's honor toward the purchase of an item of need at the synagogue. The list, which Larry helped to assemble, includes crock pots, a linen rack, silverware for meat, office furnishings and new carpeting for the sanctuary. Gifts of any amount are welcome.
Larry has served as president of Tikvat Israel at two different periods -- his own term in and then a year-long stint as interim president in 2011-12. He continues to serve on the TI Board of Directors as immediate past president. He took a lead role in the renovation of the sanctuary and serves as baker extraordinaire at special meal functions.
Larry also has filled some key volunteer roles in the community. He is a founding board member and past president of Shepherd's Table.
Reservations to attend the dinner may be made by calling the synagogue office at 301-762-7338 by Friday, Jan. 18. The service in the sanctuary starts at 6:30 pm, and the dinner follows immediately in the social hall. The cost for dinner is $22 per adult and $12 per child ages 12 and under.
