Congregants Join Public Vigil in Support of Cuban Captive Alan Gross

Nearly two dozen members of Tikvat Israel participated in a public vigil in support of Washingtonian Alan Gross, who has been held captive in Cuba for more than 900 days. The vigil took place on June 25 in front of the Cuban Interest Section on 16th St. N.W. in the District of Columbia.

Eagle Scout Project Brings New Storage Shed for Pre-Schoolers

Tikvat Israel and its early childhood program are the beneficiaries of a recently completed Eagle Scout project led by Ross Apter. Over the fall and winter, Apter planned his project, which culminated in the recent construction of a new storage shed for the Broadman-Kaplan Early Childhood Center in the rear of the synagogue. Apter, a recent graduate of Rockville HS, is the son of Susan and Alan Apter.

Congregation Adopts 2012-13 Budget, Ratifies Cantor's Contract Extension

Tikvat Israel members turned out in large numbers to approve a budget for the new fiscal year, ratify a new contract extension for Cantor Rochelle Helzner and endorse the governing board's recommendation to hire David Abramson as interim rabbi in 2012-13. The actions were taken at a congregational meeting on June 26, presided over by Larry Gorban.
