High Holy Day Services

On the High Holy Days we offer both:

  • Traditional services in the Social Hall following the Conservative liturgy
  • "A Service for Seekers" in the Sanctuary led by Richard Lederman, with Pam Gorin and Janaki Kuruppu
    This highly interactive service allowws participants to explore the deeper meaning of the High Holidays through traditional and contemporary prayer, discussion, reflection, meditation and song.

HIGH HOLIDAY SERVICES FOR YOUTH

Tikvat Israel will provide age appropriate services & activities for children ages 3-12 as listed below. Services will be open to all children registered in advance. There is no charge for services, but we do need to have an accurate list of those attending in each age grouping. This will allow us to provide enough chairs, books, snacks and staff for each service.

Services are timed so that parents can participate in an adult service of their choice, hear the Rabbi's sermons, as well as participate in Yizkor.

PRE-SCHOOL - AGE 3-5 years olds
For:Parents accompany their children to this service.
When:First and Second Day of Rosh Hashanah at 10:00 am - 10:45 am
Yom Kippur morning at 10:30 am - 11:15 am

PARKING & SHUTTLE BUS SCHEDULE:

Parking information will be sent with tickets.


SERVICE NOTES:

  • The Religious Practices Committee has requested that those who have received honors should arrive NO later than 15 minutes before time indicated on the letter you have received assigning you the specific honor. Some other important times:
    • in order to hear the Rabbi's message in the Ner Tamid Services (Traditional Services) on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, congregants should be in the service no later than 10:10 am,
    • those who wish to be sure to hear the sounding of the Shofar on Rosh Hashanah (Tuesday, September 30) should plan on arriving by 10:15 am,
    • if you wish to take part in the Yizkor Service (Thursday, October 9), plan on arriving by 11:00 am.
  • Please note that in the Traditional Services in the Social Hall there are designated certain areas for handicapped seating. Our ushers will assist our congregants in securing those seats.
  • The Tashlich Service on Tuesday, September 30 will be begin at 6:30 pm. Participants will leave from the synagogue at 6:00 pm and meet at the bridge in Rock Creek Park at 6:45 pm.
  • Reminder - Leather shoes are not permitted on the Bima during Yom Kippur Services. Slippers will be available for those who wish to utilize them.
  • SET UP OF SOCIAL HALL FOR TRADITIONAL SERVICES: Please check back for information on helping to set up chairs in the Social Hall.
  • Our Office Staff and High Holiday Committee have been working diligently to ensure that all is prepared. If you have any questions regarding any matters regarding the High Holiday Services, please contact the synagogue office.
